If there's one thing you should know about me, it's about my obsession over the internet. I've had this problem since I was 13, this is nothing new to me. I've just decided to blog about it because recently, it's getting really worse.
As you all know, I'm a university student. I have a lot of commitments and stuff that need to be done on certain dates. I have assignments to write, exams to study for, lectures to attend, and many other things. This problem is really a great barrier to me. It's taking over my time, as well as my energy. Even when I'm at uni, my laptop is still in front of me. By the end of the lecture, I assure you that I've understood nothing because I was on the internet the whole time. When I'm out with friends, I often browse through my phone to check whether I received new emails or notifications on Facebook. I even go to Maccas to access their free wifi whilst waiting for Martin every morning. When there's no free wifi and I've already ran out of credits, I bring out my credit card and purchase wifi credits at hotspots. My iPod Touch is on my hand when I'm watching a movie, I refresh everything every 10 minutes. I no longer make the most out of my daily activities because of this. Simply put: I'm addicted and I don't know how to stop.
The worst part is that even at night, it still controls me. I sleep beside my laptop and I wake up every hour or two just to check everything. It's basically a routine: I refresh every social networking website I have, check emails, respond to emails, and all the other things that I would normally do during the day.
I know that I need to do something about this. I'm missing out on a lot of things and I'm getting behind with my studies. Finals are only 5 weeks away and if I don't change my deadly habits, I'm bound to fail all my papers this semester.
Do you have this problem as well? What are you doing to overcome your internet addiction?

I've decided to host all button swaps via Passionfruit Ads. Starting on October 1st, all ads that are NOT hosted on Passionfruit will be taken down. Want your ad to remain on my sidebar? Just head over to my sponsors page and read what you gotta do! I know that I can import ads on Passionfruit but I just don't have the motivation to do it (sorry!) Plus, I'll be changing my blog's layout soon so your button's size would have to be adjusted as well.

Reading a really good book always helps me keep my mind off of Twitter and fangirling over bands. :-) I sometimes get tempted to turn on the computer and/or an iPad to access internet but I think I'm getting there.
ReplyDeletehow about you try setting a computer usage boundaries. ask yourself for how long you are going to use the computer, for what purposes? set a time limit. you could decide first before taking an action.
ReplyDeleteor
find recreational activities in real life and replace your entertainment with them.
Great illustration in your header!! Did you make them?
ReplyDeleteHey what about following each other? Visit my blog and let me know, it would be great to keep in touch!

ReplyDeleteYes, ganyan din ako minsan. I remember nung college, di makatulog at parang laging nanaginip.. But then, na-overcome ko na. Wag masyadong obsessed for health reasons. Don't let it control you. take care!
ReplyDeleteOMG! that is totally addiction ;-(
ReplyDeleteplease dont ever deprive yourself with enough REST. im not a fan of sleeping, but rest? that's another story. we only live once, and if we waste it over things that degrades us, we will miss more happy events and moments in our life because we abuse ourselves ;-(

That is totally a big problem. You need to decide first to really control your self. If you are decided, find that discipline to stop before it's too late. I'm wishing you all the luck on that. I know you can do it. Following you back dear!..:)
ReplyDeletexx!
Hi there!
ReplyDeleteI was bad with internet but NEVER like this. I think this is too much. I always believe that unless it's an emergency and people need you to respond then they will call you. Otherwise it is not important. I actually set up hours from my day aside, and during those hours I work on my blog, and manage my other social media sites. I hope that you can overcome this! Best of luck

ReplyDeleteI'm exactly the same -A- my laptop is genuinely on 24/7. It's such a terrible habit. When I sleep i always put friends or big bag theory in the background.
